Black Widow: A mature black widow female is around 1.5 inches long and .25 inches in diameter. She is shiny and black with a red marking in the shape of an hourglass on the underside. Males and juveniles on the other hand can be black or grayish black in color and could have yellow and orange spots. The females have larger venom sacs and therefore can deliver a lethal bite. These spiders create a web of irregular, tangled, sticky silken fibers and often hang upside down in the center of the web. They aren’t typically aggressive and respond to vibrations as their eyesight is very poor.
Brown Recluse: Brown recluse spiders are approximately ¼ – ¾ inches long and are cream-colored to dark brown. These spiders are typically found in garages, trunks, stored clothing, work gloves, shoes, under logs, stones, or any other undisturbed location. They form a loose irregular sheet web and attach their egg sacs to a surface. These spiders are rarely aggressive with most bites resulting when pressed against the skin such as putting on clothes, gloves, or shoes that have been on the floor undisturbed for a period of time.
Wolf: Wolf spiders are usually brown and black and range in size from .04 to 1.18 inches. These spiders hunt for their prey and can be found just about anywhere. They frequently enter homes and backyards but pose no danger to people.
House Spider: There are a variety of house spiders including yellow sac, black, brown, American, daddy long-legs, domestic, giant, hobo, Southern and tiny. All of these vary in size, color and habits but are most commonly found in the home. They are most often harmless, but we do recommend calling Professional Pest Control to be sure.
